Shakanda
Shakanda was a king of Makuria in Nubia, installed by the Mamluks in 1276. A relative of King David, he sought the support of Sultan Baybars, whose army defeated David near Dongola and placed Shakanda on the throne as a vassal bound by oath to pay an annual tribute. His accession marked the end of Makuria's independence from Egypt.
