Shemamun

fl. 1280s–1290s · 13th century · Also known as Semamun

Shemamun was a king of Makuria in Nubia in the late 13th century, repeatedly deposed and restored. Mamluk armies sent by Sultan Qalawun in the late 1280s installed rival princes at Dongola, but Shemamun regained the throne each time the Egyptian troops withdrew. His struggles show how far Mamluk Egypt controlled Makurian successions after 1276.
