Simferopol

Simferopol is the main city of the Crimean peninsula, on the Salhyr river. On its edge lie the ruins of Scythian Neapolis, the capital of the late Scythian kingdom in the Crimea from the 3rd century BCE. The modern city was founded by the Russian Empire in 1784, after the annexation of the Crimean Khanate, beside the Tatar town of Aqmescit, and became the administrative centre of the Taurida Governorate.
