Souda Bay
Souda Bay is a deep natural harbour on the north-west coast of Crete, near Chania. The ancient city of Aptera stood on the heights above it and controlled access to the bay. Its sheltered waters made it a major naval base in later centuries, under the Venetians, Ottomans and modern navies.
