Sirens
The Sirens were dangerous creatures of Greek mythology, part woman and part bird, whose singing lured sailors to their deaths. In the Odyssey Odysseus has himself bound to his ship's mast so that he can hear their song safely. One legend told that they lost a singing contest to the Muses, who plucked their feathers, a story linked to the name of the Cretan city of Aptera.
