Špilberk Castle
Špilberk Castle stands on a hill above Brno in Moravia. Founded in the thirteenth century as a royal castle, it withstood a Swedish siege in 1645, was rebuilt as a baroque fortress and from the eighteenth century served as a notorious Habsburg prison for political prisoners, including Italian patriots such as Silvio Pellico. It is now the museum of the city of Brno.
