Stadacona

Stadacona was a St Lawrence Iroquoian village on the site of present-day Quebec City, visited by Jacques Cartier in 1535. Its chief Donnacona traded with the French, and Cartier wintered nearby in 1535–1536 before taking Donnacona to France. The village had vanished by the time Samuel de Champlain founded Quebec in 1608.
