States of Jersey
The States of Jersey is the legislature of the island, which grew from around 1500 out of meetings of the jurats, the rectors of the twelve parishes and the parish constables. An Order in Council of 1771 confirmed that laws were to be made by the States rather than by the Royal Court alone. Reforms in 1948 removed the jurats and rectors and replaced them with elected senators alongside the deputies.
