Swaziland Conventions

1890–1894 · 19th century · Also known as Swaziland Convention

The Swaziland Conventions were three agreements between Britain and the South African Republic (Transvaal) on the status of Swaziland, concluded in 1890, 1893 and 1894. The first set up a joint administration, while the third made Swaziland a protectorate of the South African Republic, administered from Pretoria from 1895 without formal incorporation. Britain took over the territory after the Second Boer War.
