Sword of Goujian

5th century BCE · 5th century BCE

The Sword of Goujian is a bronze sword of the State of Yue found in 1965 in a Chu tomb near Jiangling in Hubei. An inscription in bird-script names its owner as a king of Yue, identified as Goujian, who reigned from 496 to 465 BCE. Still sharp and untarnished, with fine diamond patterning on the blade, it is held in the Hubei Provincial Museum.
