Table Bay

Table Bay is a natural bay on the Atlantic coast of South Africa, overlooked by Table Mountain, on whose shore Cape Town stands. Jan van Riebeeck landed there in 1652 to set up a supply station for Dutch East India Company ships, the start of European settlement in southern Africa. Robben Island, later a prison, lies in the bay.
