Taga Castle

Also known as Taga-jō

Taga Castle was a fortified government centre founded in 724 in present-day Tagajō, Miyagi Prefecture. It served as the seat of the governor of Mutsu Province and of the Chinjufu, the court's military command against the Emishi, until Isawa Castle took over in the early 9th century. Its site, with the inscribed Taga stele, is a Special Historic Site of Japan.
