Talmudic academy
A Talmudic academy, or yeshiva, is an institution for the advanced study of the Talmud and Jewish law. Such academies flourished in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, whose cities became the heartland of Ashkenazi Jewish civilisation. Accounts of the Commonwealth list them alongside Hasidic mysticism and Yiddish literary culture as traditions that shaped global Jewish identity for centuries.
