Tarikh al-Fattash

17th century · 17th century

The Tarikh al-Fattash is an Arabic chronicle of the western Sudan written in Timbuktu, traditionally attributed to Mahmud Kati and completed by a descendant, Ibn al-Mukhtar, in the seventeenth century. With the Tarikh al-Sudan it is the main written source for the history of the Songhai Empire under the Askias and for the Moroccan conquest of 1591; parts of the surviving text were altered in the nineteenth century.
