Person
Tatobem
Tatobem was the grand sachem of the Pequot in the early 17th century, when the nation dominated the wampum trade of southern New England and traded with the Dutch on the Connecticut River. After a quarrel over trade at the Dutch post, the Dutch seized and killed him around 1633 or 1634. His death and the succession of his son Sassacus deepened the rivalries that led to the Pequot War.
