Technical university

A technical university is a higher education institution specialising in engineering, applied sciences and technology. In nineteenth-century Germany a dense network of such institutions trained engineers and chemists for industry. Accounts of the German Empire credit these technical universities with producing the applied scientific capacity that sustained German industrial dominance before the First World War.
