Termez

Also known as Termiz

Termez is a city in southern Uzbekistan on the Amu Darya, at an ancient crossing between Bactria and the lands to the north. Under the Kushans it was a flourishing Buddhist centre, with the monasteries of Kara Tepe and Fayaz Tepe. It was later a Muslim city on the Silk Road, destroyed by Genghis Khan in 1220 and rebuilt nearby.
