Thebe of Pherae

4th century BCE · 4th century BCE

Thebe of Pherae was a daughter of Jason of Pherae and the wife of Alexander, tyrant of Pherae in Thessaly. Around 358 BCE she plotted with her brothers to murder her husband, whose cruelty was notorious; according to ancient writers she hid his guards' weapons and let her brothers into his bedroom. Her brothers then ruled Pherae in turn until Philip II of Macedon intervened in Thessaly.
