Thesprotia

Thesprotia is a region of Epirus in north-western Greece, on the Ionian coast opposite Corfu, today a regional unit with its capital at Igoumenitsa. In antiquity it was the land of the Thesprotians, with the oracle of the dead (Necromanteion) on the Acheron river. Its rugged mountains sheltered the Souliote confederacy in the 17th and 18th centuries.
