Third Italian War of Independence

1866 · 19th century · Part of the Austro-Prussian War

The Third Italian War of Independence was fought in 1866 between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austrian Empire, alongside the Austro-Prussian War. Although Italy was defeated at Custoza on land and at Lissa at sea, Prussia's victory over Austria allowed Italy to gain Venetia under the Treaty of Vienna (1866).
