Austro-Prussian War

1866 · 19th century

The Austro-Prussian War was a short war fought in 1866 between the Austrian Empire and Prussia, with their allies, for leadership in Germany. Prussia won decisively at the Battle of Königgrätz. Austria was excluded from German affairs, and the defeat led directly to the Compromise of 1867 and the creation of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
