Third Indochina War

1978–1991 · 20th century

The Third Indochina War is the name given to the conflicts that followed the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia in December 1978. Vietnam overthrew the Khmer Rouge regime and occupied the country for a decade, fighting Khmer Rouge and other resistance groups, while China attacked northern Vietnam in 1979 and border fighting continued through the 1980s. Vietnamese troops withdrew in 1989, and the Paris Peace Agreements of 1991 ended the war.
