Tormes

The Tormes is a river of western Spain that rises in the Sierra de Gredos and flows north-west through Salamanca to join the Duero on the Portuguese border. After Ramiro II's victory at Simancas in 939, the Kingdom of León resettled its valley around Salamanca. The river is also known from the Spanish picaresque novel Lazarillo de Tormes.
