Toulon
Toulon is a port city on the Mediterranean coast of Provence, France, with one of the finest natural harbours in Europe. Its arsenal was developed under Louis XIV by Colbert and Vauban, and it became the chief base of the French Mediterranean fleet. In 1793 a British-held Toulon was retaken by Republican forces with the help of the young Napoleon Bonaparte, and it remains France's main naval base.
