Trapezitsa

Trapezitsa is a fortified hill in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, facing the Tsarevets hill across the Yantra river. With Tsarevets it formed the core of Tarnovo, capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire from the late twelfth century until the Ottoman conquest of 1393. Excavations have uncovered its walls and the remains of many medieval churches, and the site is now an open-air museum.
