Treaty of Amritsar (1809)

1809 · 19th century

The Treaty of Amritsar of 1809 was an agreement between Ranjit Singh and the British East India Company. It fixed the Sutlej River as the boundary between the Sikh and British spheres of influence. This settlement secured Ranjit Singh's eastern flank and gave him room to expand his empire westwards and northwards.
