Treaty of Da'an

1911 · 20th century

The Treaty of Da'an was an agreement concluded in 1911 at Da'an, north-west of Sanaa, between the Ottoman Empire and the Zaydi imam Yahya Hamid al-Din. It gave Yahya authority over the Zaydi highlands of Yemen, including the appointment of judges and the collection of religious taxes, while recognising Ottoman sovereignty. It ended years of costly revolt and prepared the way for Yemen's independence under Yahya in 1918.
