Treaty of Lima (1929)
The Treaty of Lima, signed on 3 June 1929 with the mediation of the United States, settled the Tacna–Arica dispute left by the War of the Pacific. Tacna was returned to Peru and Arica remained with Chile, which paid Peru compensation and agreed to provide port facilities. The settlement ended nearly half a century of tension between the two countries.
