Treaty of the Triple Alliance

1865 · 19th century · Part of the Paraguayan War

The Treaty of the Triple Alliance was signed in secret on 1 May 1865 in Buenos Aires by Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay after Paraguay invaded Argentine territory. The allies pledged to fight until the regime of Francisco Solano López was removed and set out the territory Paraguay would lose, terms that made the ensuing war a war of annihilation.
