The Treaty of Venlo was concluded on 7 September 1543 between Emperor Charles V and Duke William of Jülich-Cleves-Berg. After a swift campaign by Charles, William renounced the Duchy of Guelders and the County of Zutphen and promised to keep his lands Catholic.
