Trinh Khai

1763–1786 · 18th century · Also known as Trịnh Khải

Trinh Khai was the penultimate Trinh lord, ruling northern Vietnam in the name of the Le emperors from 1782 to 1786. He came to power through a mutiny of the palace troops against his half-brother, which left the soldiers dominant at court. When the Tay Son under Nguyen Hue marched on Thang Long in 1786 his army was defeated, and he killed himself after being captured.
