Tripartitum

1514 · 16th century · Also known as Tripartitum opus iuris consuetudinarii

The Tripartitum is the compilation of the customary law of the Kingdom of Hungary made by István Werbőczy and presented to the diet in 1514. Though never formally promulgated, it was printed in Vienna in 1517 and used by the courts as the basic law book, confirming the equal privileges of the nobility and the subjection of the peasants. It remained in force until 1848.
