Tzachas

d. c. 1093 · 11th century · Also known as Chaka Bey, Çaka Bey

Tzachas, called Chaka by the Turks, was a Seljuk Turkish emir who ruled Smyrna on the Aegean coast of Anatolia from about 1088. A former captive at the court of Nikephoros III, he built a fleet, seized Aegean islands such as Lesbos and Chios and allied with the Pechenegs against Byzantium. Alexios I persuaded his son-in-law, Kilij Arslan I, to kill him.
