Uí Briúin
The Uí Briúin were a dynastic group of early medieval Connacht, claiming descent from Brión, son of the legendary king Eochaid Mugmedón. From the 8th century they dominated the kingship of Connacht, and their branches included the Uí Briúin Aí, from whom the Ua Conchobair kings descended, and the Uí Briúin Bréifne, ancestors of the O'Rourkes of Breifne.
