Ulrich Wille

1848–1925 · 19th century

Ulrich Wille was a Swiss army officer who served as commander-in-chief, with the rank of general, during the First World War, from 1914 to 1918. He sought to modernise the militia army along Prussian lines of discipline and training. His open sympathy for Germany caused controversy in French-speaking Switzerland, and he deployed troops against the general strike of November 1918.
