Uzbek Khan

1282–1341 · 14th century · Also known as Öz Beg Khan

Uzbek Khan was khan of the Golden Horde from 1313 to 1341, the longest reign in its history. He made Islam the state religion, built mosques in the capital Sarai and kept close ties with Mamluk Egypt. He controlled the Russian principalities by granting the title of grand prince, favouring Moscow over Tver, and the Horde's trade and power reached their height in his reign.
