Valjala

Valjala is a village on the island of Saaremaa in Estonia, site of one of the island's main prehistoric strongholds. In early 1227 a crusader army crossed the frozen sea and captured the fort, forcing the islanders to accept baptism and completing the conquest of Estonia. Its church, begun in the 13th century, is among the oldest stone churches in Estonia.
