Vandad Hormozd
Vandad Hormozd was a ruler of the Qarinvand dynasty in the Alborz mountains of Tabaristan, northern Iran, in the late 8th century. In the 780s he led a revolt against the Abbasid Caliphate with the Bavandid ruler Sharwin, killing many Arab settlers and officials. He later came to terms with the caliphs, and his son Qarin continued the family's power; his grandson Mazyar became the dynasty's best-known ruler.
