Vazimba

The Vazimba are, in Malagasy tradition, the earliest inhabitants of the central highlands of Madagascar, displaced or absorbed by the ancestors of the Merina. Royal traditions credit King Andriamanelo with defeating them with iron-tipped spears in the sixteenth century. Their tombs and spirits remained objects of veneration, though historians debate whether they were a distinct people.
