Vikram Samvat

57 BCE · 1st century BCE · Also known as Vikrama Samvat

Vikram Samvat is a Hindu calendar era that begins in 57 BCE, still widely used in India and the official calendar of Nepal. Tradition links it to a legendary king Vikramaditya of Ujjain, but early inscriptions call it the Krita era or the era of the Malava people. It counts lunar months within solar years, and its year numbers run about 57 years ahead of the Common Era.
