Vogelsberg
The Vogelsberg is a range of low mountains in central Hesse, Germany, the eroded remains of a large Miocene volcano and one of the biggest basalt areas in Central Europe. Its highest point, the Taufstein, rises to 773 metres. Thinly settled and agricultural, it was divided among small territories such as Hesse-Darmstadt and Isenburg and saw heavy emigration in the 19th century.
