fl. mid-6th century · 6th century · Also known as Gwrthefyr

Vortiporius was a 6th-century king of Dyfed in south-west Wales, whom Gildas called tyrant of the Demetae and condemned in On the Ruin of Britain. A memorial stone from Castell Dwyran in Carmarthenshire, inscribed in Latin and ogham to Voteporigis the Protector, is often taken to be his. Welsh genealogies name him Gwrthefyr.
