Wara
Wara was the first capital of the Wadai Empire, in the east of present-day Chad. Accounts of the Wadai Empire record that Abd al-Karim established his Islamic sultanate there around 1611 after overthrowing the Tunjur rulers. It remained the capital until the nineteenth century, when the seat of government moved to Abéché.
