Tunjur

The Tunjur were a dynasty that ruled parts of Darfur and Wadai in the eastern Sahel before the seventeenth century. Accounts of the Wadai Empire describe them as a non-Muslim or nominally Muslim ruling group. Around 1611 Abd al-Karim led a successful revolt against the Tunjur rulers and established the Islamic sultanate of Wadai, with its capital at Wara.
