Warren Expedition

1884–1885 · 19th century · Also known as Bechuanaland Expedition

The Warren Expedition was a British military expedition of about 4,000 men led by Sir Charles Warren to southern Bechuanaland in 1884–1885. It broke up the Boer freebooter republics of Stellaland and Goshen without fighting and secured the road to the north for Britain, leading to the proclamation of British Bechuanaland and the Bechuanaland Protectorate in 1885.
