Wat Chet Yot

1455 · 15th century · Also known as Wat Photharam Maha Wihan

Wat Chet Yot is a Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand, founded by King Tilokarat of Lan Na in 1455. Its main building, with seven spires, was modelled on the Mahabodhi temple at Bodh Gaya, where the Buddha attained enlightenment. In 1477 it hosted the council of monks that Thai tradition counts as the Eighth Buddhist Council.
