1115–1191 · 12th century

Welf VI was a German prince of the Welf dynasty who held the Matildine lands, the March of Tuscany and the Duchy of Spoleto from 1152, granted by his nephew Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. He was also an uncle of Henry the Lion and ruled the family's lands in Swabia. He granted privileges to Tuscan towns such as Lucca, and after the death of his only son in 1167 he sold his inheritance to the Hohenstaufen.
