Swabia
Swabia is a historic region of south-western Germany, taking its name from the Suebi and corresponding roughly to the land settled by the Alemanni between the upper Rhine, Lake Constance and the Lech. From the 10th century it formed the Duchy of Swabia, held by the Hohenstaufen until 1268, after which it broke into many small territories and imperial cities. Today the name survives in a government district of Bavaria and in the Swabian dialects of Baden-Württemberg.
