Werowocomoco

Werowocomoco was the chief town of Wahunsenacah, paramount chief of the Powhatan, on the north bank of the York River in Virginia. John Smith was brought there as a captive in 1607, and Wahunsenacah left it for a more distant seat in 1609. Archaeologists confirmed the site in Gloucester County in the early 2000s, and the US National Park Service acquired it in 2016.
