Wernigerode

Wernigerode is a town in Saxony-Anhalt on the northern edge of the Harz, known for its half-timbered town hall and old town. From 1429 it belonged to the counts of Stolberg, whose Stolberg-Wernigerode line rebuilt its hilltop castle as a historicist palace in the 19th century. It is the starting point of the narrow-gauge railway to the Brocken.
